Our Robot Arrays

“Hi, it’s 3/4B here!” This term in maths we’ve been learning about multiplication and arrays. We made awesome space rockets and robots using square tiles and arrays.

We took photos of our fabulous artwork and filmed ourselves reflecting on our work using the iPads.

We then used the iPad app ‘Aurasma’ to link our videos to our artwork photo. When you hover over our artwork with the iPad our video appears. It really is like learning in the future! Come check it out!

Spinning in Space

Did you know that Apollo 8 was the first mission to go around the dark side of the Moon?

This term we have been learning all about space and our solar system, but mainly, the Sun, Earth and Moon. 3/4B have been doing lots of fun activities such as watching how our shadows shrink and grow and creating some fabulous art works.

We have been watching a funny and interesting show called ‘Bill Nye the Science Guy’. We suggest that you should check it out.

We hope to share some interesting facts and work with you as we learn more about our amazing solar system.

A visit from David Shaw - Space Engineer 

3,2,1, BLAST OFF!!

This is 3/4B and their awesome blog!! Last week, one of our fabulous community members, David Shaw, came in to talk about NASA. In case you didn’t know, NASA is an American space agency. NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. David is retired now, but he used to be a space engineer at NASA. We learnt a lot about NASA including how long you got to fix a machine if it went wrong; 18 seconds, and that if you wanted to eat food in space, then you had to eat it all mushed up in a tube. Thankyou David!!3/4B has landed now! Goodbye! 

P.S.  David is Hannah’s grandad! Thanks again Grandad!

What's happening in Maths this term...

Multiply, multiply, multiply. We’re learning about multiplication at the moment. The times tables up to 12 is what we’re trying to learn and remember quickly. We’re all at different stages in our learning. We love working with each other, sharing our ideas and strategies. We have also played lots of games. Try these out at the following locations:

We also learnt about factors and products. A product is the result of multiplying two or more numbers together and factors are two or more numbers that are multiplied together to give you a product. We will all try to master every times table by working hard and practising everyday.

Soccer Gala Day

“Goal!” What a blast we had on Friday the 19^th October at Fawkner Park for our annual Grade 3/4 Soccer Gala Day. All the students had the best time ever. We were so happy because we had all won at least 1 game during the day. We worked brilliantly together and had heaps of fun. We were excited to be to be outside enjoying the sun on such a beautify day. The event was fabulous and was enjoyed by all!

SKPS Concert

Halloween on Planet Cake

Wow! What an amazing night! All the hard work we put into the 2012 school concert finally paid off! We all made our way to the Palais Theatre where we waited back stage. Behind the curtains the crowd was buzzing with excitement. As we proudly walked on stage, the music burst into all corners of the theatre. The school concert was a great success. We all got brilliant feedback from our teachers, parents and community. We all had loads of fun and are looking forward to the next school concert in 2014!

Great things we've been doing lately...

Basketball Gala Day

On Wednesday 8^th of August, the Grade 3’s and 4’s went to MSAC to play basketball. We shot, passed, dribbled, (not on our jackets) won and lost. One of our teams were in the grand final, but unfortunately we lost. We all had a great day! 

Breda’s Bees

“Buzzzzz…. AAAHHHH! Bees everywhere!” Jokes, Clinton’s cousin, Breda, came to our school earlier this term to talk about bees. We learnt that if a hive needs a new queen, the bee’s feed royal jelly to an egg and that egg produces a queen bee! Very interesting indeed! Thanks Clinton and Breda!

Paralympian Visit – Bryce Alman

“Whoo hoo!! Go Aussies!” We’re at the Olympics! Actually we’re in the classroom. But Bryce Alman, the Paralympic rugby player (also known as murderball) came to visit SKPS on Thursday the 30^th of August. Bryce explained some stuff about his experiences in the Paralympics. He showed us some of his medals medals. Some of the students got to feel a real Paralympic medal, it was a fantastic experience to meet a real life Paralympic athlete.

Author Visit – Morris Glietzman

Morris Glietzman came to our school this term to talk about his life as a writer. He told us about how he became a writer, life as a kid and as most importantly the secret to starting a story. The secret is to start your story with a problem, this grabs the readers attention and makes the story exciting!
